Chapter 223: Infinity Waits

Indie & international folk

Spiritualized sometimes gets called ‘space rock,’ but on “I Think I’m In Love,” they’ve set their thrusters to slow burn. At first the song is just two plinky repeated notes...then before you know it, you’re airborne, floating next to a self-lacerating Jason Pierce. Godspeed! You Black Emperor also takes a patient approach, carefully layering sound upon uplifting sound until you can barely stand the tension. Sometimes a tiny tweak is all it takes to float; a subtle tempo change brings “Snow Lion Of Peace” to a boil, while a cyclical structure anchors “Toputika Neshungu.”
