Chapter 83: Big Yellow Taxi

Folk rock

A lively and even silly set of folk rock (and one very silly country song); freaky folk acts like The Incredible String Band punctured some of the more annoying pieties of the pure folk revivalists. CSN & Y are heart-stopping in any letter combination. Joni Mitchell sings about an objectively depressing state of affairs with a fatalist smile. George Harrison has never sounded freer than on his first post-Beatles work. Even Simon & Garfunkel are practically boisterous on the irrepressible “Cecilia.”
