Chapter 108: Future Days

German progressive rock, aka Krautrock

A heady collection of whooshing atmosphere and off-kilter rhythms. Krautrock, the possibly mildly offensive term for German progressive rock of the 70s, will mess with your sense of time and magnetize your thought patterns. Each of these bands shaped entire genres to come - hip-hop, for one, would not have been the same if Afrika Bambaataa never sampled “Trans-Europe Express.” Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh, and Goblin (the lone Italians here) likewise developed a completely new vocabulary for film music.
