On “Ark Of The Covenant,” the Congos float weightlessly against producer Lee “Scratch” Perry’s lightning cloud of echoes - it’s a vibe at once holy and influenced by some very earthbound flora. Many of these golden-era reggae tracks are torn between chasing angels and devils, visions of promised lands and modern prophets dueling with the easy temptations of wine and women. That subtle tension keeps these songs, slow and restrained as they are, ceaselessly compelling.
