This chapter includes a pair of tracks from John Hughes films that were seemingly written with future nostalgia in mind; “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” is practically a high school yearbook signature. “If You Leave” is even more affecting, the drawn out coda echoing the singer who just doesn’t want this night to end. (Little surprise it actually was written to make the end of Pretty In Pink land with audiences.) The other ornate synth-pop tracks here are less overt in their intentions, but just as effective at triggering spontaneous dancing and wistful chills down your spine.
