Every song here has the single-minded goal of getting your party started, though the methods differ greatly. Daft Punk does a lot with very little; they’ve got you in the palm of their hand for all seven minimalist minutes of “Around The World.” The Avalanches have no need for such restraint, mixing a crateful of records into one frothy concoction. Authenticity may be in short supply here (Milli Vanilli and C&C Music Factory faced consecutive lip-sync scandals, and “Uptown Funk” sounds like every funk hit of the last 30 years rolled into one), but on the dancefloor, it’s all about whatever works.
