Chapter 62: Southern Nights

Country & country pop

I was not expecting to end up with three Glen Campbell songs in the Anthology, but over the course of its creation I fell in love with his style; mournful, melodic, overlapping more with Brill Building pop than traditional country. These songs are sometimes called ‘countrypolitan,’ a spin on one of today’s favorite anti-left slurs - and I can see why country purists would be annoyed, but this music is gorgeous, dramatic and panoramic. Then again, I’m a city-born coastal elite.
